Handmade Hope

Oh my handmade ladies.
My heart is so broken for you right now.
After my last post I have had so many ladies message me about their brokenness and frustrations in this handmade world. The pains they have gone through in their business, their creativity, and their sense of betrayal when finding a copy.

Oh ladies, I have been there. I have created for hours, felt the excitement of giving birth to a new creation, only to find the newness isn't as new and shiny as I thought it was. I have meet other ladies that created things just like I did from other parts of the country and quickly did the math too see who started first. I've cried over a Etsy page as I saw something that I created in memory of the children we had lost to miscarriage, copied and sold by some one else.

I feel your broken creativity.

I know there is fear, there is hurt, there is anxiety. I know what it is like to sit down and stare at the stack of bills and your bank account and wonder how this is going to work. I know the panic when you put everything you can on sale to try and make more money. I know what it is like to feel threatened. Threatened that this other shop could take your sale, then you wont have money for diapers or formula or the power bill.
I know the panic, the anger, the frustration.
I know all too well.
I walk that path all too easily.

Ladies please listen.
You are so much more then what you create.
You are more unique then the uniqueness of your goods.
You are more then your bottom line.
You are more than your Etsy stats.
You are more...... Because He is more.
He is more than your bills.
He is more than your hurt.
He is more than your fears.
He is more than you need.

I am not by any way trying to diminish your hurt. I know that hurt. I would want nothing more then to sit down and hear everyone of your hurts and hug you ((even though I am not a huggy person, I have that urge)). I want to buy you a cup of coffee, pray over you, and tell you this.

You are a beloved daughter of God. Given a gift. A gift of creativity, a gift of a skill.
Just like the proverbs 31 women, you create for your home.
But did you know there wasn't just ONE proverbs 31 women.
There wasn't just ONE women selling her goods to the merchants.
There were many.
Many women.

I have this image in my mind.
A dirty, hot market. Little wooden stands waiting to be filled with merchandise. Just bit of crispness coming off the ocean with the light is slowly beginning to break, as the merchants fill the area. Some men, some women, bringing their goods to be sold. I see two women, both with yards of gorgeous purple linens. You know that deep beautiful purple, that purple that is set apart from all others? I see that purple, I see those women, I watch as they walk to two different stands.
Two women.
Two creative hearts.
One product.
One God blessing them both.

I see these two ladies, smiling at each other, thanking God for His blessings, and praying for the blessings for the other. I see these two ladies, going about the business day, buying, selling, praising, happy to be used by God and looking for yet another way to serve. I see at the end of a long day, them packing up, nodding to one another and walking home.

Happy and content.

Content at what God provided them that day. Not running through a list in their head of how many sells they had. Not spending the day with one eye on the “competition” making sure they did better. Not wondering who started their shop first. They kept their eyes on the one that Provides, and out of that the joy in their hearts over flow.

Handmade ladies, please don't forget Gods promises. He promises to protect you, to provide for you! He promise to not leave you. He knows the pain in your hearts, the tears in your eyes, the aches in your soul. Please ladies, please, we are all daughters. We are stronger with Christ and with each other.

Ladies, I leave you with this. I pray that God blesses not just your shops but your whole life. I pray that your creativity flows, I pray that God ministers into you pain. I pray for this community to be strengthen, not in shop sales but in love, in praise for God, and for total joy for each others blessings.
I pray that is Godly handmade community can be radically different. That we help each other, bless each other, pray for each other, in a way that doesn't make business sense but makes total loving Godly sense.

Handmade Grace

I spent a lazy afternoon the other day flipping through Instagram, just clicking on different people that were friends of friends, you know what I'm talking about. I know I'm not the only one that does that. Till I stumbled upon someone that was making items just like I had out last fall.

Honestly, my blood started to boil.

Did this person rip me off?
Are they copying me?
This is why I hate doing handmade sometimes.
I should just quite.

While my thoughts were stumbling down a dark path, my heart was racing as I quickly begin to check if this person followed me. In that moment my phone froze, pushing me a little further to the edge. The edge of throwing it all away, deleting my etsy and crawling in a ball to crying into my coffee about my lack of creativity, or the ramped stealing of ideas in the handmade community, which ever came first. Suddenly this statement started rolling around in my head....

Does it matter?
Does what matter? Does it matter I was ripped off? Yes.
Does it matter? Does it matter that I might not be as creative as I thought? Yes.
Does it matter? Does it matter that I could miss a sale because of this? Yes.
Does it matter...

My pride started to crack, my ego started to fall.
It doesn't matter...
God provides for me, not a scarf or earring sale. As much as my pride can be bruised, hurt, or angered, it all goes back to God. God gave me creativity. He gave us all creativity, it doesn't matter if if is used in a handmade shop, a new recipe, a bedtime story to a toddler, God gave it to us. Each of us. Who are we to judge how that creativity is shown. Who is to say that they were the first person to ever think of  **insert your creative idea here**?

Can it hurt to be copied, yes it can. Just don't forget the grace. Don't forget the God given grace that He gives each of us. We don't deserve it, but He gives it freely. We don't deserve His provision, but it is always there. He doesn't need an etsy sale to give out that provision. Each of us are handmade in grace by God.

So crochet on sister, rock out those scarfs.
I hope God uses them to bless you this season, abundantly more then He used them to bless us last year.

Beautifully Free

I'm one of those that love fall.
Back to school, pencils, book bags, notebooks full of blank pages, all bring me so much hope. A sense of renewal.

Honestly, I get a little sad every year that I'm not going back to school. Yes, I'm that big of a nerd. I miss that sense of new, that sense of saying 'this is MY year'.

A few weeks ago a friend texted me out of the blue with a simple statement "I have an idea for your business want to head it?" my heart jumped!

Yes, I wanted to hear it! Needed to hear it. My creativity was zapped and I was longing for something new. A renewal.

Needless to say after a very long conversation that spanned a few days, I felt refreshed and free.
A freedom to play with design and colors.
A freedom to push out of my comfort zone.
A freedom to start something new!

Big changes are coming your way, big design pushing, color infused, beautiful changes!

I can't wait!

The first part of the beautifully free collection is already in the shop, with free shipping this weekend, use code freefalling at check out!

Marry Me

This week is the Hubby's and I fifth wedding anniversary ((August 1st)). I can't believe it's been five years ((literally I had to count four times to make sure)).
You would think after 8 moves, two kids ((soon to be three)), and countless sleepless nights it would start to feel like five years.

I'm kind of excited it doesn't.

He still makes me laugh hysterically.
He still does things totally out of left field
He can still calm me down ((for the most part)) when I'm freaking out about something. ((Or he ignores me till I'm calm which also works!))

I still love him and I love that.

Use code MARRYME for $5 off till Thursday! ((Don't forget proceeds from this months sales will be donated to Mandie Joys adoption fund!))

A Mother

My favorite part of this internet life is meet people and watching their lives change.
That is this story.

Meet Mandie Joy...
I've been following her blog for years now, since she lived in Africa and fostered sweet little babies. Yes you read that right, she's a foster mom. A sweet, 20 somethings, single foster mom.

Now that is a mommy heart right there.

Over the years I've watched her take in child and after child, from twins to premies, she has loved each of them hard, prayed over them even harder, and cared for them with every once of her heart. 19 children in all this mommy has held and rocked. To say she floors me, would be an understatement.
Now, she has her own daughter! Mandie is in the process of adopting her daughter, a little five year old girl from Africa. She is gearing up to move back to Africa for an unknown time, before she can bring her little girl home.

I am so excited for her and this journey, which you can read more of on her blog.
This is what I am asking of you. Would you consider supporting her not only in prayer, but also by one of the different fundraising opportunities?
For the rest of this month and August a portion of my shop sales will go to her adoption fund!

So you can donate to her fund, buy a pair of earrings, or pick up some of her prints ((oh did i mention she has an adorable print shop?)) and pray!
Let get this little girl into her mommy's arms!

Going For It

I'm linking up again with Blair over at Wild & Precious today.
I love this link up, the only rule, what is your life lately.

Oh lately, we are going for it!

We have this dream of being together more as a family. When your husband works over 65 hours a week, family time is well, sparse. I hate it. I'm incredibly proud at how hard the Hubby works, and how much he strives to provide for us but its hard. We have all sacrificed a lot for me to stay home and keep our bills so low, but he still has to work a ton.

We have this dream of having a successful home business. A business that creates time for us to be a family, that provides our needs, and gives us the chance to show our kids to follow their dreams.

And it all starts with small steps.

For me its taking my mentality from "pretend business mommy" to putting my big girl panties on and becoming a business card carrying, not afraid to tell someone "yea I make those".
Now there is my button for my shop, Mrs Pate Makes proudly displayed on the side bar (bet you didn't even know I had a shop!), and this month I am for contributor for Tethered Crate! Also you can find me on Facebook at Mrs Pate Makes & Instagram!

For my hubby.... He has opened his shop, Bound Tight. He has designed & made a fabulous bamboo wallet. See the man hates wallets. I have been after him for years to trade in his paperclips, rubber bands, and other random things he has tried to use. Finally, he made his own and voila! He has had so many people ask about it and want to buy one that he started a shop.

I'm so excited & proud for him. If you have never opened a shop, it is a scary thing to put your idea and work out there. It is for both of us, but thankfully we are tackling it together.

Its been fun having conversations about prices, items, marketing, things that Ive been afraid to tackle I now get to walk through with my Hubby. There's nothing better than running for your dreams with the person you love.

Valentines Day Love

With the Hubby still out of town for work, Valentines Day is a little different this year. Luckily between play dates with friends and Buddieboy getting into holidays there is a lot going on to keep me busy.

Then I got this thought, why not share the love this year. So lets have a little giveaway!

I have fallen in love making these little burlap pillows. If you have seen me around the social media realm  you know that I've gone pillow crazy.

Viola! The Love pillow.

Have fun and good luck!

Black Friday

I am not a Black Friday shopper. I prefer to do my shopping in my jammies, un-showered, drinking coffee. You guessed it, online! I love that I can hop online, get some great deals and not have to wipe the sleep out of my eyes!

Here's some of my favorite deals around today!

shop here!
I am in love with these from BonnBonn Boutique! I am really hoping for that blue one (hint hint hubby). Not only does she have these great ornaments but the original mustache mugs, flask, wine glasses, and beer mugs! Even better... They are all on SALE NOW!!

I really love everything out of this shop! Really, I could post photo after photo. Bonus, I already have an amazing stripe dress from this shop and love it! Michelle is like a vintage ninja, she finds the most amazing stuff. I'm kind of jealous of her skills, so I guess I'll just keep shoeing her shop ;).

Handmade by Hilary, she's not joking when she says cuteness for all occasions! This shop has EVERYTHING! Pillows, banners, towels, onzies, you name it, its there. She has a huge sale going on too, 25% off everything.
